| | J. Paul Getty viewed art as a civilizing influence in society and strongly believed in making art available to the public for its education and enjoyment. He opened the J. Paul Getty Museum to the public in 1954. This small museum, established in his ranch house in Malibu, housed collections of Greek and Roman antiquities, 18th-century French furniture, and European paintings. Fascinated with the ancient world of the Mediterranean, he later built a Roman-style villa, modeled after the Villa dei Papiri of the first century A.D.
The Getty Foundation provides support to institutions and individuals in Los Angeles and throughout the world, funding a diverse range of projects that promote the understanding and conservation of the visual arts. Through its grant-making, the Foundation complements and extends the work of all the Getty programs. The Foundation also encompasses the Getty Leadership Institute, the leading source of continuing professional development for current and future museum leaders.
We are a not-for-profit organization. We have had previous internship experience referred from both national and international graduate applicants including Korea, the United Kingdom, Nepal, Germany, and France.

The grant includes health benefits, but housing is not provided.
2.)Multicultural Undergraduate Internships. In order to increase diversity in the professions related to museums and the visual arts, the Getty is offering summer internships at the Getty Center and the Getty Villa to undergraduates of culturally diverse backgrounds. Internships provide training and work experience in areas such as Conservation, Library Collections, Publications, Museum Education, Curatorship, Grants Administration, Public Programs, Site Operations, and Information Technology. Orientation activities and field trips provide students with broad exposure to career possibilities in museums and visual arts organizations.
Internships provide stipends of $3,500 for ten-week summer internships at the Getty Center in Los Angeles or at the Getty Villa in Malibu, California. The internships are full time beginning June 2008, and ending August 2008. Housing and transportation are not provided.
***For ALL internships: A car is not required but is desirable. Mileage is not reimbursed and housing is not available, although some host organizations may be able to offer some assistance.
